Loudoun County Department of Family Services is seeking qualified applicants with a demonstrated interest in working with older adults and adults with disabilities to join a dynamic team as an Adult Protective Services (APS) Family Services Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating APS reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of individuals who are over 60 years old or who are between 18-60 and incapacitated. The person in this position also conducts nursing home and community based care prescreening and maintains a caseload of clients receiving companion services. APS is well-suited for professionals who are seeking a fast-paced, challenging work environment. The position requires a dedicated, service-oriented team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to handle investigations under difficult and potentially hostile or crisis conditions; experience with assessment and service planning; commitment to the population served by APS; and experience managing competing priorities and a demanding workload.
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Gerontology or related field and 3 years of related experience. Experience working with older adults and/or adults with disabilities required. APS experience desired. Master's Degree preferred. Must be available to participate in responsibility for overnight/weekend APS coverage (one week every 4-6 weeks) as well as to cover daytime APS intake as needed. Valid resident driver's license required. Successful candidate will undergo criminal background, child protective services and driving record checks.
