Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) seeks a dynamic leader as the next dean of its School of Social Work and invites expressions of interest. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the dean will have responsibility for providing leadership in academic education, scholarship, fund development, and community engagement activities for one of the strongest and most highly-ranked schools of social work in the country. The dean will take the lead in shaping the future of the school, articulating a vision that defines its standard of excellence, the direction of its growth, and the continuing and new multi-disciplinary connections that are possible across the university. With the faculty, the dean will be responsible for the recruitment and retention of the faculty. Interest in health, mental health, and health disparities is centrally important. The dean also will extend partnerships with the public, nonprofit, and corporate sectors, expanding connections in support of the development of the school. Additionally, the dean will be responsible for all matters relating to the management of the resources of the school, including its academic programs; its faculty, staff, and students; its facilities, and its budget. The dean will actively support the university’s advancement initiatives and will lead that effort within the school and among its constituents. The dean will also assure continued focus on the students, both undergraduate and graduate, providing the services and the support to ensure their success. Finally, the dean will recognize, reward, facilitate, and actively participate in high-level scholarly activities. Located on two downtown campuses in historic Richmond, VCU enrolls nearly 32,000 students in 205 certificate and degree programs in the arts, sciences and humanities. Recognized by U.S. News & World Report, the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work's graduate programs are ranked 14th among the nation’s top social work programs. The Monroe Park Campus location offers all three degree levels – Bachelor of Social Work, Master of Social Work and Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work. In addition the school offers the M.S.W. at an off-campus site in Alexandria, Virginia, within an easy commute of the nation’s capital.
